SUSTAINABLE REGENERATION OF BUILT HERITAGE – A CASE STUDY OF SAN ANTON PALACE

Perit Edward Said of Architecture XV was one of speakers invited to present at a workshop concerned with heritage buildings and their potential to exploit the benefits of energy-efficient retrofitting. The workshop was held at San Anton Palace under the auspices of Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, with the participation of the President’s Foundation for the Well-Being of Society, the University of Bath, UK, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, UK and the University of Malta.

The workshop focused on the opportunity presented by heritage buildings in terms of the huge potential that exists to exploit the benefits of energy-efficient retrofitting. The coupling between the needs to conserve and use heritage buildings, to use them in an energy efficient manner, to exploit passive energy conservation possibilities and to create spaces which are comfortable for the occupants were all discussed together with many other considerations and technicalities.
